Tendon / Peripheral Nerve Surgery
FzioMed introduces DYNAVISC® gel for adhesion prevention in tendon and peripheral nerve surgery.
DYNAVISC is a clear, absorbable gel designed to coat surgically traumatized tissues during tendon and/or peripheral nerve surgeries such as in foot, knee, shoulder, and hand surgery. DYNAVISC acts as a temporary, protective barrier to separate tissues and to reduce fibrosis and the formation of post-surgical adhesions.
Adhesions are internal bands of scar tissue that can develop following surgery as the body attempts to heal. Adhesions can impact an otherwise successful procedure, leaving a patient with pain, nerve compression, impaired motion and diminished quality of life.
Safe Tissue Protection
DYNAVISC is formulated from FzioMed’s world-leading biomaterial technology (CMC and PEO) and supplied ready-to-use in a 1mL syringe with a sterile, flexible applicator.
DYNAVISC is a clear, smooth gel that provides a clear view of tendon and neural structures during placement. The flowable, tissue adherent properties of DYNAVISC gel allow thorough tissue coverage. DYNAVISC is backed by the exceptional safety history of FzioMed’s biomaterial gel technology.
Adhesion formation following surgery can interfere with the normal gliding function of tendons and nerves, causing pain and greatly restricting motion. Post-surgical adhesions in the hand can produce tension which, if severe and prolonged, can lead to further nerve injury.
The advantages of using Dynavisc in Tendon/Peripheral Nerve surgery include:
- Exceptional safety
- Ready to use
- Fast application, thorough coverage
- Clear and colorless, allows view of tendon and neural structures
Protects the Procedure
- Separates and coats tissues
- Reduces adhesions
- Moderates pain and symptoms
- Fewer adhesions
- Easier re-operations
How it Works
DYNAVISC is designed to coat surfaces exposed during tendon and peripheral nerve surgery – such as in the hand, foot, shoulder, and knee – in order to form a temporary mechanical barrier that separates tissues.
DYNAVISC gel remains at the site of application for a period of time, providing an adhesion barrier during the healing process. DYNAVISC is bioabsorbable.
The presence of a temporary barrier gel such as DYNAVISC has been shown to reduce fibrosis and the formation of adhesions.
Tendon adhesion is a function of both an inflammatory response at the surgical site and the loss of physical separation that is normally present between the tendons and synovial sheath. Adhesions bind tendons and nerves to each other and to surrounding structures, interfering with their normal gliding function. The clinical result of adhesion formation following flexor tendon surgery in the hand is poor digital function and pain. Similarly, tethering of nerves can produce tension, which if severe and prolonged, can lead to ischemia and further nerve injury. Reducing extraneural adhesion formation can improve the outcome of surgery and decrease the risk of post-surgical complication.
A Better Biomaterial for Tendon & Peripheral Nerve Surgery
An effective adhesion barrier gel mechanically reduces the formation of the fibrin scaffolding between healing tissues where adhesion formation can occur. The ability of a gel to coat and separate tissues is related to the rheological properties of viscosity, elasticity, and pseudoplasticity. In addition, the gel must be well tolerated and must not interfere with normal healing.
DYNAVISC gel is formulated from FzioMed’s world-leading CMC/PEO biomaterial technology. Studies have shown that coating tissues with CMC/PEO gels can safely prevent the formation of adhesions without interrupting normal healing.
DYNAVISC is smooth and colorless, allowing a clear view of tendon and neural structures during placement. The flowable, tissue adherent properties of DYNAVISC gel allow thorough tissue coverage. DYNAVISC is backed by the exceptional safety history of FzioMed’s biomaterial gel technology.
DYNAVISC is intended to reduce fibrosis and formation of adhesions following tendon and/or peripheral nerve surgery.
