FzioMed is a leader in the development of biomaterials for postsurgical adhesion prevention and pain reduction.

Postsurgical adhesions are abnormal, fibrous bands of scar tissue that can form inside the body following surgery. Adhesions are triggered by surgical trauma such as cutting, manipulation or suturing, or from inflammation, infection or bleeding. Adhesions generally begin to form within the first several days after surgery.

Adhesions cause tissues that are normally separate to become joined together. Complications from postsurgical adhesions include chronic back or pelvic pain, intestinal obstruction and infertility. Complications can be severe enough to require re-operation. Adhesions make subsequent surgeries more difficult to perform and adhesions can reform even if removed surgically.

Oxiplex®/SP Gel and MediShield™ - adhesion barriers for spine surgery - are approved for sale in the European Union and in certain countries outside the United States. FzioMed sells Oxiplex/SP and MediShield outside the U.S. through world-class distribution channels:

In the U.S., FzioMed has completed clinical trials of Oxiplex as an adjuvant to lumbar spine surgery for the reduction of postoperative pain and neurological symptoms.

FzioMed's adhesion barrier for abdominal and pelvic surgery is distributed by Ethicon Women's Health and Urology, a division of ETHICON, Inc, a Johnson & Johnson company, under the trade name ETHICON INTERCOAT*. ETHICON INTERCOAT is currently available in Europe, Middle East and Africa.
